Revit Market Joins TurboSquid Proper

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Tomorrow is the big day: Revit Market gets moved over to the main TurboSquid.com site!

What does this mean? Several things:

  • Revit files (RFAs) will use plain-English categories, meaning customers can more easily browse for what they need.
  • Customers will be able to search more easily for other file formats like DXF, DWG, and OBJ.
  • Google will list direct links to products in ordinary Google searches.
  • For publishers, it means you’ll get access to the Affiliate program, where you can make an additional 20% royalty on your model sales.

Revit Market has topped the 3500 mark, and with Revit files incorporated into TurboSquid’s main search, we expect it will keep going strong.

Revit Market had a great August!

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Record sales last month! Many publisher saw increased sales in August. TurboSquid as a whole also reported higher-than-usual sales. Either the economy is recovering, or we’re just doing well. Who knows? All we know is, Revit Market is happening these days!

If you have more families to publish, let me know. We can pre-certify your families to make sure everything you publish is certified.

We’re also seeing more CAD models posted at TurboSquid in general. We see this as a great sign for the future. Keep on posting those Revit families, and stay tuned for more exciting changes at Revit Market!

SquidGuild – Higher royalties, keyword reports

Friday, August 14th, 2009

TurboSquid has just introduced the SquidGuild, a program to reward publishers who commit to selling only at TurboSquid. Revit Market benefits from this announcement in a few important ways:

  • All Revit Market publishers are eligible for the same increased royalties as other TurboSquid members.
  • Revit Market publishers who join the SquidGuild will receive a monthly report specific to Revit Market, detailing popular keywords and keywords that lead to sales.

You can read all about the SquidGuild here. If you want the newsletter that describes the details, pop me an email and I’ll send you a copy.

Making Your Families Show up in Searches

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

On the Revit Market splash page are six buttons for quick searches of RFA files.

Revit Market splash page

If you want your families to show up in one of these searches, just enter the caption keyword in the product’s Tags field. For example, if you’re publishing a desk, put in furniture as one of the product’s tags. If the caption is plural (as in Windows), put the singular form, window. The tags are not case-sensitive.

After you save the edited product, it will start showing up in the appropriate splash page search within a few minutes.

Pre-Certification: For peace of mind

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Now that the contest excitement is over, we can focus on other ways to build the Revit Market catalog. So here’s what I have in mind:

Revit Market is now offering pre-certification. This means that we check your families first, and publish only the ones that pass certification. For the rest, we’ll send you notes on what needs to be fixed.

I know you have a bunch of families hanging around your hard drive, and when you get around to it, you’ll clean them up and publish them. I know this is time-consuming, and that you’re busy.

So let us do the work for you! You’ll get some families published, plus you’ll have a tidy list of what needs to be fixed in the others.

Pre-Certification is intended for libraries of 50 or more families, but I’m open to offers. Let me know what I can do for you.

Revit Family Contest: Deadline March 31

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Tuesday, March 31 marks the end of the Revit Family Contest. The idea behind the contest was to get more content for Revit Market while giving you the chance to show off what you’ve got. Not only do you have a chance to win the first prize of $2500 in three categories, you also get ongoing income from sales of your families.

The contest requires each entrant to publish original families at Revit Market. What does this mean?

  • Publish = Put up for sale
  • Original = You created it yourself, or own the rights to it

Publishing at Revit Market is free. Entering the contest is free. A no-brainer, no?

This is how it works: You create a project using some of your original families. Then you publish the families for sale at Revit Market, and send me some screen caps or renderings of the project, showing the families in action.

RevitComponents comes to Revit Market

Monday, March 16th, 2009

As we cruise into the last couple of weeks of the Revit contest, we have some exciting additions to the Revit Market catalog.

Longtime subscription service RevitComponents has signed on with Revit Market, publishing their library of 250 top-notch families. Their selection ranges from casework to furniture, plumbing, and shelving units. Look for their products at Revit Market in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, the contest entries are starting to come in. Perhaps you’d like to win $2500, just maybe? Then check out our Revit Contest page. Deadline is March 31.

Got Manufacturer Content?

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

A few of you have emailed me with an interesting question:

“I have some manufacturer content that I created myself for a project. Can I sell it at Revit Market?”

Yes, you can. However, it’s possible that the manufacturer is looking for the type of content you have so they can offer it for free at Autodesk Seek. Rather than pay the money to make it themselves, maybe the manufacturer wants to buy your content outright, and save themselves the trouble.

If you sell your family to the manufacturer, you’ll give up all rights to the content. On the other hand, you’ll have more cash in your pocket.

If you have manufacturer content you want to offer to the manufacturer, email the Seek team. In the meantime, publish the families for sale at Revit Market. You can always take them down if you make the sale to the manufacturer.

Symbolmachine comes to Revit Market

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

We just got word that Symbolmachine will post 300 assets for sale at Revit Market. Exciting!

By my estimation, the marketplace needs about 10,000 pieces of content to become the “one-stop shop” for all Revit content needs. Want to join us?

Reved Up Families at Revit Market

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

Revit Market, being a new-fangled thing, is going through its early adoption phase. A few brave souls glimpse the future, and decide to participate in making it happen.

That’s how it is with Reved Up Families, a collection of 400 high-quality Revit families. Reved Up has decided to put their entire collection up for sale at Revit Market.

“We are extremely excited to be publishing our Revit content on Revit Market,” says Guillaume Belgique, co-owner of Reved Up Families. “We believe that Revit Market will become THE website that users will go to find quality Revit content. We’re excited to be a part of Revit Market’s growth and success, and know they’ll be an integral part of our growth and success as well.”

I’ve had several inquiries from libraries and users in this week alone who would agree. Revit Market was shown at three recent Revit user group meetings (and those are just the ones I know about). A recent AUGI article about our Revit user survey has gotten the word out even more.

Having lots of families published will be key to the success of Revit Market. If we build it, the people will come.
