Revit Market visits Japan

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Tokyo, Japan, where I encountered Jun Inoue of 3D Innovations. Jun started the Revit User Group for the Tokyo/Osaka area a couple of years ago, and they have since expanded to 1200 users.

Meeting Jun was a bit like looking into a mirror. He’s very enthusiastic about Revit Market, and is keen to make it more accessible to Japanese users. The conversation centered on offering more items in metric units, and the possibility of translating Revit Market previews into Japanese.

We’ve got grand plans for Revit Market, including making preview searches directly accessible from Google and other search engines. Stay tuned for exciting developments coming soon!

Revit Market and Talent on Demand

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

TurboSquid has a Talent on Demand service, where we hook up clients looking for custom work with artists and designers who can complete their projects. We’re getting an increasing number of requests for custom Revit families, and we’re happy to hook up some of our best Revit Market publishers with clients who need the work done right.

With our Revit Market catalog, a client can browse and look for a publisher who does the kind of work they need. In fact, just this week, a client hand-picked a few designers for his project just by browsing Revit Market. This is an advantage for both the client and the designer. The client can see the work of dozens of designers in one shot, and publishers can expose their work to a wide variety of potential clients, all while earning money on their families.

If you’re interested in being considered for Revit Talent on Demand jobs, please visit our Talent on Demand page and fill out the Artist registration form. If you need custom families made, visit the page and request a quote. If you sign up as an artist, please keep in mind that first preference is given to Revit Market publishers.

Grand Opening!

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

At Revit Market, we’re getting ready to do many promotions to customers. These promotions will be centered around the week of June 1, when Revit Market will officially be out of the Beta phase. Here’s what will be going down in the next few weeks:

AUGI | AEC Edge magazine. In conjunction with Autodesk Seek, Revit Market is running a half-page ad in this new publication. It will be sent out as a PDF, available as an online magazine for 6 months, and then printed for distribution at Autodesk University in December. The magazine is scheduled to come out by June 1.

Publisher landing pages. All contest winners and top publishers are eligible for a custom landing page that links right to all the publisher’s products at Revit Market. You can link to this landing page from your website or email. Publishers with email lists of 50+ Revit users are also eligible if the link is sent out to their mailing list. If you want your own landing page, email me or reply to this post. No reasonable offer refused!

Banner ad at RevitCity.com. Yes, they know we’re doing this, and they’re okay with it. We’re all friends.

Press release. I’ll send out a press release announcing the end of Beta, but wouldn’t it be nice if I could also boast 3000 products for sale? We’re a few hundred short, though… if you’ve got any more to go up, now is the time!

Revit Survey

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Trying to categorize Revit families is a tough business! Is it 2D or 3D? Low, medium or high detail? Will it render in 3D? What else do you need to know about a family before you load or download?

Make your voice heard by taking our Revit Family Attributes Survey. One respondent will be selected at random to win a free TurboSquid t-shirt. But more than that, you’ll get the satisfaction of knowing you helped make the Revit community a better place.

Upgrades to Revit Market

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Yesterday we posted an upgrade to Revit Market. New features include:

  • Certified assets are marked as such on the item’s full preview (the individual view that shows all thumbnails, description, etc.)
  • You can limit a search to Certified assets only.
  • My Account tab now holds all member information such as sales and payment info–you no longer have to go to TurboSquid.com to find this information.

There were also numerous small improvements under the hood to make Revit Market more efficient. If you tried to publish a file and got an error, try it again now that we’ve worked out some of the kinks.

3D Needs 2D, So They Say

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

A hot topic of discussion at Revit Market these days is 2D files.

Lighting symbols, window header and sills for sections, stone patterns, hatch patterns…so many 2D bits and pieces that go into a complete Revit design.

Our publishers tell me that they often reuse the same 2D files over and over again, modifying them as needed for the project at hand. They’d like to make their 2D files available to others at Revit Market, so we’re looking at adding categorization and file format support for these different kinds of 2D files.

More to come as the plot thickens.
